Cavalier King Charles Spaniel overview
This breed was first recognized in 1925 and derived from the King Charles Spaniel, in an effort to breed them to the type seen in Van Dyck's painting of Charles II.
The Cavalier, as it is known, has a longer muzzle than the King Charles and is an affectionate and happy companion. Can be a wimp when being treated and therefore often reacts verbally when being vaccinated. A good pet dog that requires regular grooming and reasonable exercise.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is not to be confused with the King Charles Spaniel which has a totally different breed standard and identity.

Colours, markings and patterns
Black and tan: raven black with tan markings above the eyes, on cheeks, inside ears, on chest and limbs and underside of tail. Tan should be bright. White marks undesirable.
Ruby: whole coloured rich red. White markings undesirable.
Blenheim: rich chestnut markings well broken up on pearly white ground. Markings evenly divided on head. leaving room between ears for much valued lozenge mark or spot (a unique characteristic of the breed).
Tri-colour: black and white well spaced, broken up, tan markings over eyes, cheeks, inside ears, inside limbs, and on underside of tail. Any other color or combination of colors highly undesirable.
