Dandie Dinmont overview

The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is named after the fictional character (ref. Guy Manneringby Sir Walter Scott). Originating from the Border country, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier is said to share ancestry with the Border Terriers. Friendly dog, self-willed but not very obedient. Can be determined and aggressive with other dogs.

They were originally used in fox hunting, badger digging, otter hunting and vermin control.

Colours, markings and patterns
Pepper: ranges from dark bluish black to light silvery gray, intermediate shades preferred. Body colour coming well down shoulder and hips gradually emerging into colour of limbs and feet, which varies according to body colour from rich tan to pale fawn. Profuse silvery white top-knot.
Mustard: varies from reddish brown to pale fawn. Profuse creamy white top-knot, legs and feet of darker shade than head.
In both colours, feather on forelimbs rather lighter than hair on fore part of limb.
Some white hair on chest and white nails permissible.
Hair on underside of tail lighter than on upperside, which should be darker colour than body.
