Great Dane overview

Dogs similar to Danes appear on carvings from 2,000 years ago. A descendant of the Molossian dogs of Rome, this breed owes its present day lines to German breeding. First emerged in German show ring in 1863. The Dane is a very large dog requiring skilled ownership. It is generally gentle but its size and strength requires a strong commitment from the owner. It is good with children and other dogs and does not require a lot of exercise or grooming.
